Hotels
The official hotel for Blacksun Festival IV will be Courtyard by Marriot.
 |
Courtyard by Marriott 30 Whalley Ave., (203) 777-6221, 160 Rooms, www.courtyard.com.
This hotel is the one that is physically closest to the festivals main venue, Toads Place which is about a block away. Its slightly further away from the Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening venue. Very clean, and the staff has always been nice to us. Free (wired) Internet is included with your stay, as is breakfast (Like you will be getting up in time!). Please note that at previous Blacksun Festivals they were not very accommodating when it came to room parties, so if you are planning on having one you may want to look elsewhere.
The Marriott will be this years official hotel.
When you call the Marriott at (203) 777-6221 to make a reservation, inform them you are part of the Blacksun Festival group. They will give you a special rate of $129/night. Please note that if you call the national Marriott number (the 800 number) they will not be able to give you this rate.

The Colony Inn – 1157 Chapel St., (203) 776-1234, 85 Rooms, www.ColonyatYale.com.
One of the favorite places to stay for many Blacksun attendees, the Colony is closed for renovations at this time. It is unknown if they will be finish in time for the Festival in 2008. If you hear they have reopened, please let is know!

Hotel Duncan – 1151 Chapel St., (203) 787-1273, 32 Rooms
This hotel is located next door to the Colony Hotel. It’s main advantage is price and location. Rooms start at $90/night after taxes, and the location can’t be beat. This hotel looks a bit dated but the festival organizer has stayed here and reports that it is clean and spacious. Some rooms have air conditioning, and some are without. In order to receive a room with A/C you must specifically request one.
Hotel Duncan’s reservation policy is to only take reservations for the current month and the next. As a result for this years festival you will only be able to reserve a room starting on February 1st at 8am. |

New Haven Hotel 229 George St., (203) 498-3100, 92 Rooms, www.NewHavenHotel.com
Another favorite recommendation of New Haveners. This hotel is affordable and clean. The rooms are spacious and have a vintage look to them. There are only showers in the bathrooms (no romantic baths for you!). There is valet parking and free wired Internet to all rooms. This hotel is a bit further from the Fri/Sat night venue than the others that are reviewed (about a ten minute walk), but it is more in the center of New Haven and is much closer to the Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening venues.

Omni New Haven Hotel – 155 Temple St., (203) 772-6664, 306 Rooms, www.OmniHotels.com
We don't have a real review of the Omni. Past festival attendees have reported that it's a very nice place to stay and is affordable. In 2005 we had multiple reports of people getting rooms here for $125/night. These people said they waited until a few days before the festival to book their room. The 2007 festival was deliberately scheduled on a slow weekend for the hotels, so you may be able to get a good rate out of the Omni. We recommend you call their local number and not the national (800) number when making your reservation. The Omni is located about 10mins walk away from the Fri/Sat mainstage (Toads Place) but is right around the corner from the Saturday afternoon and Sunday stage (Alchemy Nightclub). It is also the closest hotel to Diner 21 where we will have a couple of events this year.
