   Alter Der Ruine
Alter Der Ruine was created in 2005 in Tucson, Arizona, by Mike Jenney as a noise project aimed at creating harsh rhythms and beats geared for the dance floor. Their debut album The Ruine Process was self-released and gained a lot of attention and support from many facets of the industrial music scene.

The band’s energy was evident in their live performances, which incorporated a wide variety of electronic instruments and brought new members to the band. The current lineup consists of Mike Jenney, Mike Treveloni, Xiån Austin, and Jacob Rouse. Don’t miss their intense live performance at BSF and see what it is about this band that has caused them to be labeled “not-shy,” both on stage and in the crowd.

   [syndika:zero]
[syndika:zero] was conceived within the winter season of 2006 by L1f3g1v3r as a means to fuse the hard-electro and IDM genres, while utilizing emotional lyrics and oppressive atmospheres to invoke a sound depicting a nihilistic world in which one must grasp and take hold of the courage required to survive it.

Early in 2007, demos began to be distributed and [syndika:zero] soon had supporters throughout the United States as well as Canada and Brazil.

Through an ever-cathartic and agressive sound, the music of [syndika:zero] is a force with which to be reckoned.

[syndika:zero]'s debut album, 'The Example' is planned to be released in March 2008.

   Assemblage 23 (Metropolis)
Tom Shear began constructing music at home under the moniker Man On A Stage in the late 1980's. Most of the music was very simplistic and poorly constructed, with no vocals at first but as time went on they occurred more often. While working on Man On A Stage, Tom Shear also was playing bass live for a punk-influenced band collectively known as the Advocates.

In 1988 at a Depeche Mode concert, Assemblage 23 was born. Tom was amazed by the industrial dance music that the opening DJ was spinning. His love of the electronic synth-pop sounds mixed with heavier darker aggression proved to be an turning point for him.

While in college, in addition to working on Assemblage 23 non-stop, Shear also collaborated with two friends, Mike Ukstins and Matt Guenette on a synth-pop project, Procession. The band didn't last long, but provided Shear with performance experience and practice. At first, Assemblage 23 was more of a hobby for Shear rather than a permanent project. There were occasional attempts and demos sent out, but when they lead to no interest in the band, Shear reverted back to making music for fun and his friends. In 1992, he self-released a collection of songs called "Wires". Several radio stations began playing the new act, and fledging magazines, such as Industrial Nation, began to show interest.

But it was a side project of Shear's called Nerve Filter that helped Assemblage 23 get some much needed recognition. On a whim, Shear sent copies of Assemblage 23 and Nerve Filter to Peter Stone of Xorcist, who in return handed them over to Don Blanchard of the now defunct 21st Circuitry Records. However, Blanchard's interest was not in Assemblage 23 but in Nerve Filter, although, a few Assemblage 23 tracks would later be released on several compilations. Arts Industria released the first 'official' Assemblage 23 song "Graverobber" on their Construction No. 009 compilation. Several more times Shear sent out demos to various labels, and even while being frustrated by the lack of interest, he still wrote more Assemblage 23 songs.

Finally in 1998, the Canadian label, Gashed Records signed Assemblage 23 and released their first album, Contempt in 1999, and the follow-up, Failure in 2001. Shortly after the release of Failure, Assemblage 23 had a falling out with Gashed Records and left the label to sign with Metropolis Records, who later that year re-released both Contempt and Failure. With only those two albums, Contempt and Failure, Assemblage 23 became one of the biggest names in industrial and EBM music today.

To further the American electro act's success, a third album, Defiance, was completed for October 2002. Defiance pushed Assemblage 23's sound to the limits of only the imagination. Signature melody constructions, driving rhythms, non-stop beats, and highly emotional and personal lyrics made Defiance a logical follow-up to the widely reveled Failure.

For 2004, Assemblage 23 returned with two singles, Let the Wind Erase Me and Ground, and their fourth album Storm. Dubbed the most complex Assemblage 23 release thus far, Storm experimented with innovative sound compositions and elements, solidifying A23’s position as the most successful American EBM act to date.

Two and a half years passed after the release of Storm before Assemblage 23 proudly unveiled the Binary single, a precursor to the new album Meta. Several tracks on Meta have the signature A23 sound ("Decades V2," "Sorry" and "Binary") while others are slightly different in approach. "Raw" thrives with a break-beat accentuated by boisterous vocals while "Damaged" has a Depeche Mode influence, and the vocals in "Madman’s Dream" are completely different from anything A23 has ever done before. Meta closes out with "Old," a balled-esque track featuring a downtrodden bassline and sweeping synths, complete with emotional lyrics and a choir like echo on the vocals. Assemblage 23’s Meta will shatter any preconceived notions about the band and their music. Its like nothing you expected but all you were hoping for and more.

   Attrition (Projekt Records)
Founded by Martin Bowes in the early 1980's, Attrition was considered an important part of the burgeoning "Industrial/Experimental" music scene (alongside such bands as SPK, Test Dept., Coil, Clock DVA and the Legendary Pink Dots). The group's early albums released on the European Third Mind and Antler labels demonstrated a new approach to sound creation, a marriage of experimental and traditional approaches.

In 1989, Projekt released the retrospective Recollection ('84-'89) , giving America it's first taste of the Attrition sound.

Living and working in Europe, Martin and company toured the continent before settling back in their native England in 1991. With the creation of their own studio ("The Cage") in Coventry , Attrition's musical output intensified. The band released A Tricky Business on the Italian Contempo label, spawning the underground club hit, "A Girl Called Harmony." In 1994, under the careful direction of Martin and Projekt founder Sam Rosenthal, Attrition's back catalog was readied for re-release on Projekt: Archive.

A few years later, Attrition band signed to the German Hyperium label, then in 1996 moved to Projekt. The label immediately released Attrition's 1996 3 Arms and a Dead Cert . That summer, the band played "The Projekt Festival" in Chicago, then embarked on their first US tour.

In 1997, Attrition collaborated with Frank Dematteis, a member of the Paris opera, to produce Étude , an album of classical interpretations of their own songs. A second tour of the US followed, then an extensive tour of the UK., Germany, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Poland.

Bridging the bands many unique sound directions and multi-faceted approaches, in 1999 Attrition released The Jeopardy Maze . An eclectic blend of industrial rhythms, gothic atmospheres, classical, techno and rock influences --- surreal texts and surreal textures...

Further tours of the US followed over the next two years, while the band released The Hand that Feeds, their album of remixes… an ambient collection for Russia, Esoteria, the rarities album Keepsakes and Reflections and their first live album from their 1999 tour of the US...

After a brief hiatus Attrition returned in 2004 with one of their most critically appraised and darkest albums..
Dante's Kitchen … including the darkwave classic “Two Gods”.. The band toured extensively in 2005. Martin finally founded his own label in 2006 releasing Tearing arms from Deities. 1980 -2005 …a 25 year anniversary collection of rare, remastered and reworked songs from the bands entire career…

Attrition have always been uncompromising, yet accessible, and always unpredictable...

Behind the Scenes (In-D Records (Europe) / Dancing Ferret (USA))

Behind the Scenes (BTS) was founded in 1993 by Melrow (Vox, Programming), and Fred B.(Bass, Programming). Started as a small project, BTS quickly grew and the first demo-tape was recorded.

In 1998 they recorded their first album, called "FRAGMENT" which entered directly into the German alternative charts (DAC) and stayed there for several weeks.

Their second album "HOMELESS" was released in 2000 by "Bloodline" and afterwards in the USA through Dancing Ferret Discs. And again they´ve entered the german alternative charts with the Single-CD "Human". By the way there was an US-version of the "HOMELESS" containing 3 bonus tracks including the radio version of "Human" and two remixes, one done by Rogue of "The Cruxshadows".

During that time they played a lot of concerts, e.g. the show at the Zillo-Open-Air in 1999, maybe the main independent festival in Europe during that time or as headliner on the 3rd Dark Convention at Zurich/Switzerland.

Unfortunately their label "Bloodline" crashed down in 2002. Besides their guitarist Sven left the band of sanitary reasons. So BTS had to look for an adequate substitute which took a long time. But then finaly in 2005 they were successful and found Scholli (Ex-Secret Discovery, Syland, Assassin) as the new and long awaited member. So they start writing new songs and went in September 2005 in the studios to record their long awaited new album "Pure". Meanwhile the band also found a new record-company with the new founded label "In-D Records". Keep ears and eyes wide open for their third album "Pure" which will be released in 05/2006 in Europe (In-D Records / Soulfood) and on 06.06.2006 in USA/Canada (Dancing Ferret).

The style of BEHIND THE SCENES is really unique, somewhere between rock, pop, gothic and of course, electronic elements. Dynamic grooves paired with catchy melodies results into powerfull songs with great hooklines and refrains which you won't forget. You simply must listen to the music of BTS by yourself ... but be careful ... you´ll love them!!!

   Cesium_137 (Metropolis)
Cesium_137 are Vince Guzzardo and Isaac Walter Glendening Each member has a background in classical music study, and contemporary electronic music production, bringing a true understanding of song structure in each fold of the production process. Simply put, their music is the dream of Cesium_137 conjured into reality. It is a perfect synthesis of classic pop song structures, emotive vocals, and hard dance music grafted into one form.

   The Dark Clan
Like Andrew W.K. trying to stop the Dragonforce guys from stealing The Postal Service's lunch money, the Dark Clan is Big Serious Fun; a heartbreakingly sincere, over-the-top, genre-bending good time.

Consisting of equal parts metal, dance, electro, goth, and synth, the Dark Clan is the solo project of Dan Clark, the guitarist in Stromkern and Siv (of which he is also a co-founder). Dan also contributes recording facilities, arrangements, and other miscellany to the Gothsicles, and until just recently (summer '07) was the guitarist in Null Device.

The music of The Dark Clan features lots of species counterpoint, big pop hooks, big fat beats, big ridiculous harmonies, and big ol' guitar solos. The Dark Clan likes to Go Big, y'see. Also, Dan wants you to know he's totally not compensating for any anatomical deficiencies with all this "big" stuff. Really.

   Darker Days Tomorrow
Darker Days Tomorrow is an angry, gritty industrial band with just enough Gothic sensibilities to keep rhythm and drown our sorrows in catchy dance beats.

The lyrics range from post apocalyptic metaphor to a dissertation of the current world-view. The songs range from moody and brooding to angry and aggressive, and draw upon a significant palate of musical styles.

Vathan and Kimiko founded darker Days Tomorrow in 2006 from the remnants of the darkwave band Emergence. In late 2006 they released Zeitgeist to rave reviews and their music has appeared in movies and documentaries and they continue to conquer the world bit by bit. Zayin joined the Darker Days Tomorrow family in its conquest in 2007 and adds an edgy, electronic darkness to our sensible dance beats. Also in 2007 we had the pleasure of adding the sultry vocal styles of Paisli from the band Fiction 8 to our family.

Together we plan to release our next album in June of 2008 entitled Nothing. It is shaping up to be a brooding, dissertation on the futility of forming relationships with other humans. Should be a cheery bit of audio to add to the whole darkwave genre.

   Ego Likeness (Dancing Ferret)
Ego Likeness was created by artist Steven Archer and writer Donna Lynch in Baltimore in 1999. Their music has ranged from raw, darkly experimental trip-hop (Songs From a Dead City, 1999) to moody and melodic electronica (Dragonfly, 2000/2005 DFD) to a fusion of industrial rock and darkwave (Water to the Dead, 2004 DFD & The Order of the Reptile, 2006 Dancing Ferret Discs). Coming from art-based backgrounds, Archer and Lynch incorporate their various non-musical projects into the albums, building connections between their creations. EL has been signed to Dancing Ferret Discs since 2004.

EL has also been featured in publications such as Gothic Beauty, Outburn, ABD, Side-line and Sonic Seducer, to name a few.

Archer and Lynch also have an experimental/ spoken word/ instrumental band called The Trinity Project. Trinity was formed in 1999 and released two albums, The Trinity Project I (1999) and The Subtle Movements of the Entropy Engine (2001).

Archer is the creator of the experimental/noise project Hopeful Machines since early 2005 and has albums available for download. He periodically DJs at Arcadia (Club Five) and Spellbound (Recessions) in Washington DC, and Ascension (Club Orpheus) in Baltimore, and performs with the DC industrial band Blind Till Now.

In addition to co-writing for EL and touring, Lynch is currently working on several short stories and a second novel. Her first novel 'Isabel Burning' will be published and released by Raw Dog Screaming Press (www.rawdogscreaming.com) in 2008.    Hungry Lucy (Independent)
Hungry Lucy began by chance in 1998 when War-N Harrison (Fishtank No.9) was asked to contribute to a Depeche Mode tribute album. War-N asked vocalist/lyricist Christa Belle to record vocals for the song "Blue Dress". The couple found they worked together so well that Hungry Lucy was born.

Hungry Lucy chillin' outAfter spending a year writing and recording, the Autumn of 2000 saw the release of Hungry Lucy"s debut CD, "Apparitions". The album garnered much attention across the US and Europe for it"s combination of pop song structures, trip hop grooves and Christa"s haunting vocals & other-worldly lyrics. This attention of this debut CD lead to a licensing deal with Belgian label Alfa Matrix and subsequent European relase of Apparitions:Revisited in Fall of 2001.

After spending Spring and early summer of 2002 performing live, Hungry Lucy completed their next full length album entitled "Glo". Glo captures all the elements that Hungry Lucy are known for while continuing to explore other genres such as jazz, blues and europop. Once again, the album received critical acclaim and glowing reviews worldwide and expanded Hungry Lucy"s reach to a much wider audience.

In the Summer of 2003, Hungry Lucy embarked on a tour with Pittsburgh"s ThouShaltNot across the Western and Midwest regions of the United States. This gave people of chance to hear, as well as see, what Hungry Lucy is all about. True to form, Hungry Lucy delivered stunning performances along with synchronized video accompanyment. Several one-off shows in late 2003 / early 2004 (including performances with Cruxshadows & Wolfsheim) followed.

In Spring of 2004, it was time to head back into the studio and capture the new material Hungry Lucy had compiled over the preceding months. The result, Hungry Lucy"s 3rd full-length CD, "To Kill a King" was released in Nov. 2004 to critical acclaim from both fans and the media alike, debuting at #9 on the French Alternative Charts in January, 2005. In addition to college and club DJ exposure, "To Kill a King" has been featured on Public Radio programs such as PRI"s "Echoes" and the X-Star Network"s "Audiosyncracies". The album brilliantly displays Hungry Lucy"s passion for musical contrast and clever songwriting for which this duo is known.

Hungry Lucy returned from successful 6 week US tour and are currently writing for the next release.

   Hypofixx
Hypofixx is a one-man Industrial Rock band based in New York. Hypofixx was born out of a distaste for modern music, and a desire to make aggressive, beat-driven tunes without all the frills. He achieved this with the release of the I'll Never Be single in 2002, and the album From Man to Machine in 2003. Hypofixx's music videos have been featured on MuchMusic, and are now available in a DVD compilation, released May 3, 2005. On April 11, 2006, Hypofixx released a single for the track "Shattered From The Inside". In early 2007, Hypofixx released his second album, "After December". He is currently at work on new material.

   Iris (Diffusion / Infacted)
Taking elements of rock, glitch, retro-flavored-synth music, and coloring it with a decidedly melodic worldview, Iris is a band that's hard to classify. The new album, "Wrath", is the latest signpost in the Iris story - a record which is energetic, complex, and emotional.

The original incarnation of Iris, called "Forgiving Iris", was started by Reagan and college friend Matt Morris. Realizing they had similar tastes in music, the duo started producing keyboard-heavy pop tracks, and started to realize that they were creating something special. After a few years of playing covers at local bars, and getting spots on the occasional festival, they dropped the "Forgiving", and signed to A Different Drum in 1999. The first record "Disconnect", spawned the club hit "Annie, Would I Lie To You?", which made it one of the best-selling records in the label's history. Three more singles followed, but tensions between Reagan and Matt were coming to a head, and the band began to break apart.

Fast forward to 2001. Reagan had been working with various producers in the Dallas area, but with no luck. The band still went forward and played a show at the ill-fated Transcommunion Festival in Houston, where Matt met Joel Willard from CTRL, and mentioned to him that Reagan needed someone to help produce new tracks. At that time, Joel and Andrew both worked at Digital Anvil studios in Austin, and so he invited Andrew to come to lunch one day and meet Matt. After hearing some of Andrew's solo work (The Alpha Conspiracy), Matt introduced him to Reagan. Everything went well, and Reagan arrived one day with some demos in hand. The first song he played was called "Unknown", and though they didn't know it at the time, this would be the song to usher in the next phase of Iris.

Forward again to the end of 2002. After two years of work, Reagan and Andrew release "Unknown", the first single from the new record that they're working on, to rave reviews. People immediately noticed the change in the Iris sound -- a bit more organic, a bit less "retro", and there's even some guitars! They also decide to amicably leave A Different Drum for Andrew's own US label, Diffusion Records. Spring 2003 sees the release of the full length album "Awakening". The first thousand limited edition copies sell out in under 3 weeks, indicating things are off to a good start.. A chance emailing with Henrik Iversen (NamNamBulu) leads to the one thing the band's been looking for -- a European deal. Signed with Infacted Recordings, a special version of "Awakening" is finally released, which gets a lot of attention in the European press. Topping it off is the offer to open for De/Vision on their January 2004 "Devolution" tour of Germany and Switzerland. After a surprisingly good tour experience, the band is offered European booking representation by Pluswelt Promotions (Apoptygma Berzerk, Mesh, Beborn Beton, De/Vision, etc). This leads to the band's first big festival appearance at Arvika 2004, with bands like Kraftwerk, Keane, and Wolfsheim.

During this time, the third record was taking shape. For this record, the band wanted to take a more aggressive approach, and add a few shadows here and there. It was also decided that a number of songs were to be worked on simultaneously, to allow them to mature together, and see if they form a coherent whole. At some point names were bounced around, and "Wrath" was the one that kept sticking in their minds. They continued work on the record, interrupting it briefly to go on their first headlining tour in Germany, including a stop at the heralded Wave-Gotik-Treffen festival. This would also be their first trip with a guitarist, as they recruited the talented Brian Pearson (Low Technicians) to provide some live guitar. Arriving back home, it became clear that the record was almost finished, and the band worked hard to add the final touches and complete it. An agreement between Diffusion and Infacted cleared the way for a first for the band -- a worldwide simultaneous release. August 2005 proves to be an exciting time, as we prepare for the launch of the third full-length album from Iris -- "Wrath".

   Seabound (Metropolis/Dependent)
Possibly the most heart-felt and painful album of the year, Seabound’s Double-Crosser is a violent psychological storm of emotions all tied into the themes of deceit and self-deception. Imagine every emotion one is faced with when they find out someone they love has decimated their trust. Love, anger, depression, blame and remorse pull the listener through the deepest recesses of the human psyche as they begin to question the very truth they were presented. Frank Spinath from Seabound notes “…the more you see through the facades, the more life's contradictions and irreconcilable needs will haunt you. If you lack the naïveté to find consolation in easy dogmatic rules, you will have to face the unsolvable sooner or later.” Becoming a more confident singer on this album, Frank’s vocals are accentuated by Seabound’s signature sounds and arrangements.

Martin Vorbrodt's varying compositions facilitate a balance with the lyrics to emphasize the feelings throughout the songs. From the fast paced “Traitor” where anger and frustration prevail to slower paced “Sapphire” where hope is present, Double-Crosser explores the temptations that we are faced with everyday and how they affect the people dearest to you.
